The first thing you get when you sign up to an affiliate
program is your affiliate link. Do NOT use that link. It
will cost you money.

You lose money in 2 ways:

1. You’ll lose money to affiliate thieves. These people
simply cut-and-paste your affiliate link into their
browser window and delete your affiliate code. Why? Who
knows, but it happens all the time. Voila, you instantly
lose a sale.

2. You’re failing to catch people’s contact details. If
you send your prospects directly to your affiliate
program, you’ll make 2% of the sales you should be
making. It takes up to 12 contacts with someone before
you’ve built a relationship with them and they feel
comfortable to purchase from you.

The chart below shows the relationship between the
number of contacts you have with your prospect and when
they buy from you.

1st contact
2% of sales are made

2nd contact
3% of sales are made

3rd contact
5% of sales are made

4th contact
10% of sales are made

7th - 12th contacts
80% of sales are made

98% of all your prospects do NOT buy from you on their
first visit to your website. If you don’t collect their
contact details, you’re losing 98% of your sales.

Instead of using your affiliate URL, link to a page on
your own website and:

1. Capture your prospects details by offering a free
ebook, course, tutorial, report or other incentive to
persuade them to leave you their name and email address.

2. Give them additional information that wasn’t
available in your ad

3. Feed them your personal experiences

4. Give them a laundry list of the benefits of the
program

Marketing your affiliate program from your own website
gives you the freedom to:

1. Submit your webpage to the search engines

2. Track your ad’s success using the stats provided by
your webhost

3. Build your own brand recognition

Using the affiliate link that was provided for you is
OK in an emergency situation, but use it at your own
risk. The sales you're losing are your own.
