I made $100 with Google AdSense

Friday, April 18th, 2008

I’ve got an interesting little story for you this morning.

When I first started using Google AdSense, I was like most
other webmasters. I thought it was going to be the Golden
Goose that laid the golden egg. But Google ended up goosing
me. LOL.

My first attempt at Google AdSense made me a whopping $100
in 6 months. Not exactly the windfall I had expected. Then I
heard about a guy making almost $20,000 a month with AdSense
and he was willing to teach people what he was doing.

His name is Joel Comm. I bought his book, read it and
implemented his strategies. And you know what? I started
making $100 a month. I know that’s nothing to write home
about, but now instead of making $200 a year with AdSense, I
was making $1,200. That’s a pretty nice pay raise.

And the really exciting thing is, I didn’t have to do much
to increase my Google paycheck. I changed the positioning of
my AdSense ads so they integrated more seamlessly into my
pages. I changed the size of my ads, so they attracted more
attention, and I changed the colour of the text so it
reflected the design of my pages. Those 3 simple changes
gave me a $1,000 a year raise.

So think of what you can do with Joel’s knowledge.

OK now stop thinking and go get it :)

Google Adsense For Testing Only

Thursday, November 29th, 2007

Do you use Google AdSense as an income stream? Me either. But I did use it for something else…until recently.

That was a bit of a cryptic statement, so I’ll explain what I mean.

I like to play around online sometimes in markets I know nothing about. Sometimes a market catches my attention, but I don’t have time to develop it fully, like I do with my marketing business.

So here’s what I use to do:

1. Set up a theme website for a niche market
2. Add 10 targeted articles to the website
3. Add Google AdSense to the articles and as menu bars
4. Send traffic to the website

If the AdSense revenue ranged from $50- $100 a month, I’d swap the AdSense ads for affiliate program links. If the site generated $100-$200 a month, I’d have my own information product created and then sell the website. It’s a great little business in a box for someone who doesn’t want to go through the research and development phase and it bagged me a few thousand dollars for my work.

So my use of Google AdSense was basically just for testing.

Then I started looking around at other options to Google AdSense and I found things like AdBrite, Azoogle, Kontera, and Miva. By using these services alone and in combination with each other, I ended up making more money than I was making with Google AdSense.

So I thought maybe I’d uncovered something other people might like to know about too. But I have so much on my plate right now, I just simply can’t fit another project in sideways.

Then something cool happened. I was chatting with my buddy, Ben Shaffer, and he mentioned a book he’d just completed, called AdSense Alternatives. I got a little chill down my spine. That’s kind of what I’d been thinking of just a couple weeks ago.

When he sent me a copy, I was even more shocked. Not only did he have the AdSense Alternatives I’d been playing with in there, but he’s detailed how to use 28 alternatives to pull in more money than if you use AdSense.

And I’m not alone in my quest to rid myself of the Google penny trap. Some of my other colleagues like Harris Fellman, Martin Salter, and Alex Goad have been up to the same thing. It feels nice to know I’m in good company. LOL :)
